The life and times of one of the foremost artists of the twentieth century, the son of a Jewish tradesman from Vitebsk, reflect the role of the Jewish people in the development of European civilization. Marc Chagall is one of them. His art, inextricably linked with Russia and Russian culture, is also a glorious part of French art, as well as a national treasure of the Jewish people.
