This beautiful plaque is meant to be hung from the neck of a wine bottle. On it are the words Gut Shabbos in Yiddish, surrounded by an ornate grapes design.
As the family gathers around the table on Friday evening, the Sabbath is welcomed with the recital of the Kiddush, which hails the completion of the Creation and G-d's resting on the seventh day (Genesis 2:1-3). Described as a Queen, the Sabbath is sanctified with the blessing over wine from the finest silver cups, and sometimes, special decanters.
This piece is a replica of a silver repoussé plaque in the Israel Museum collection.
