By Tami Lehman-Wilzig

Ages 6-10

Lotty Gross dreams of becoming a famous lace maker. While learning the trade she begins work on a lace tablecloth for her wedding chest. She decides that she will use the cloth every Friday night to welcome the Sabbath Queen. Her plans are spoiled when the Empress Elizabeth sees the cloth and insists on buying it for her Sunday palace receptions. When the empress hears about the Sabbath Queen she wants to know who her rival is. The tension rises, but in the end all ends well with a Sabbath lace tablecloth handed down from generation to generation.

About the Jewish Heirloom Stories Series

Gefen Publishing proudly unveils a novel concept in Jewish Children’s Literature with its new series — Jewish Heirloom Stories — conceived and written by award winning children’s book author Tami Lehman-Wilzig. This special series is ideal for families and Jewish day schools looking for a unique, non-preachy way to convey the importance of our heritage through a quality time event in every sense of the word.
It creates a unique bond between grandparents, parents and children by:
· Letting them share the significance of specific Jewish values. Each book in the series revolves around a specific value conveyed to the reader through an original, compelling folktale full of intrigue and surprise, and centering on an unconventional family heirloom.
· Creating an interactive setting through a “Do It Yourself” section at the end of each book. Every tale leads into a separate section encouraging children to sit down with their parents or grandparents and write up their own story about a family heirloom relating to the Jewish value dealt with in each book.
