A vast collection of Hanukkah lamps in diverse styles, all produced in the lands of the Maghreb (North Africa), was assembled by Zeyde Schulmann, who lived most of his adult life in Morocco and documented the cultural heritage of North African Jewish communities.  Schulmann donated his collection to the Israel Museum in the 1960s, along with an archive of photographs and his meticulous notes on the objects, and this is the first comprehensive presentation of it.

The elegantly designed and richly illustrated publication includes the story of this colorful collector and his many advantures, an overview of North African Hanukkah lamps, and closer examination - including full-page photographs that reveal every detail - of selected lamps from different communities. It concludes with an illusrated checklist of 130 lamps in the colection.
