His art depicted a hidden, exotic Middle East, and won him acclaim both in Israel and across the world. Gutman was also a celebrated children’s author and illustrator, even winning the Israel Prize for Children’s Literature. His work is displayed in the eponymous Gutman Museum in Tel Aviv.
