This beautiful hard-sided jewelry box will be a wonderful gift for women of any age. It is emboidered on top with a rare and exclusive ancient half shekel coin motif.
The ancient half shekel coin was given as an annual gift by every Jewish male to the Temple and was used in circulation during the Jewish Great Revolt against Rome. Here is depicted the one side of the coin on which there were three pomegranates and in ancient Hebrew script the words "Holy Jerusalem." (On the other side of the coin the words "Half Shekel" are inscribed and a chalice with the Hebrew letter "Aleph" above it marks the first year of the rebellion.) The coin was discovered at the Temple Mount Sifting Operation at Emek Tzurim on the Mount of Olives and dates to the years 66/67 CE.
The City of David collection is a unique and exquisite line of artwork based on the actual discoveries made in the City of David's famous archaeological excavations, which are uncovering the history and culture of Jerusalem dating back thousands of years. Each piece comes with its own story of the archaeological find that inspired the design, and which enables you to connect the rich past of ancient Jerusalem with the present day beauty of these original works of art.
