In this vibrant work of art, Castel portrays Jerusalem in brilliantly bright color. The city spreads over the background with trees and people filling the foreground, with a vivid red plaque covered in a gleaming gold illumination. This fantastic work of Jewish art will look wonderful on any wall in your home and will make a spectacular gift.
Born to a Rabbinic family in 1909, Jerusalem-born Moshe Castel was accepted into the Bezalel Art School at just 13 years of age. He then worked and trained in Paris for 13 years, before returning to Israel and the mystical city of Safed in Northern Israel. His work is characterized by its use of unusual media to depict Sephardic life and can be categorized into two distinct styles: vibrant, brilliantly colored prints embossed with metallic paints, and strong watercolors which are abstract in style. His work has been displayed in galleries around the world, as well as at several prominent institutions, including the Knesset (Israel’s parliament), the Rockerfeller Center in New York, and the President’s home in Jerusalem.
