This vivid serigraph is called "HaKotel", the Hebrew name for the Western Wall. It depicts blue blocks which have been engravings with ancient figures and words, and adorned with bright gold etchings. Behind these blue bricks, an intricate landscape unfolds, depicting buildings, trees, and several iconic Jewish symbols. The darkened yellow background makes the blue seem brighter and the gold, more vibrant. This sensational piece of art will make a gorgeous addition to your home.
Born to a Rabbinic family in 1909, Jerusalem-born Moshe Castel was accepted into the Bezalel Art School at just 13 years of age. He then worked and trained in Paris for 13 years, before returning to Israel and the mystical city of Safed in Northern Israel. His work is characterized by its use of unusual media to depict Sephardic life and can be categorized into two distinct styles: vibrant, brilliantly colored prints embossed with metallic paints, and strong watercolors which are abstract in style. His work has been displayed in galleries around the world, as well as at several prominent institutions, including the Knesset (Israel’s parliament), the Rockefeller Center in New York, and the President’s home in Jerusalem.
