This stunning necklace replicates both sides of an ancient coin discovered in archaeological explorations in Israel.  Not only is it dazzlingly beautiful, but you'll be wearing a piece of history!

This silver replica is of an original bronze coin, minted in 201 C.E., one of the first coins struck in Samaria after it became a Roman colony.

The obverse side of the coin shows the bust of Roman emperoro Caracalla and his name and title in Latin.  On the reverse side is a sphinx with its paw on a wheel and a small head of the goddess Isis on top of its wing.  The greek inscription dating the coin reads "of the people of Sebaste, which is in Syria, year 226 (201 C.E.).

Comes with sterling silver chain or black silicone cord in your choice of length.

This item comes with a certificate of authenticity of the Israel Museum, Jerusalem together with a description of its historical background in English and Hebrew.
