925 Sterling Silver
Size: 12cm x 18cm / 4.7” x 7”
This beautiful etrog box combines the opulence of Spain’s illustrious wealth with the magnificent art attributed to Germany and Central Europe’s Jewish communities at the height of their affluence. The curlicued box features panels of textured silver outlines with gleaming, bright streaks, and filled with flowing, Gothic-style leaves centered by elaborately detailed flowers. The box stands on four leaf-like feet, and is topped with a wrought silver flower. It would make a spectacular gift or addition to your Sukkot festivities.
The etrog is a member of the citrus family, and one of the four species held together and shaken throughout the holiday Sukkot. The different plants – which also include willow, myrtle and date palm – represent different types of Jew, and they are waved in six different directions to symbolize God’s omnipresence. The etrog is known as pri etz hadar – the fruit of a beautiful tree – and people search out the most beautiful fruit available to use for this mitzvah. Fittingly, the etrog is often stored in a decorative box, to highlight its importance.
The Margarita collection pays homage to the opulent life lived by Spanish Jews before the Inquisition and subsequent expulsion in 1492. This line mirrors the sheer luxury enjoyed by Spain’s Jewish residents.
