This piece is quite unlike any other Western Wall art you're likely to find! In place of the traditional white stone, Castel has reinterpreted the holy prayer site as a wall made of fiery red bricks, crowded by real-gold embossed supplicants and their ascending prayers. This striking, stunning work of art will transport you to the Western Wall every time you stop to admire its magnificent detail!
Born to a Rabbinic family in 1909, Moshe Castel was accepted into the Bezalel Art School aged just 13. After four years he moved to Paris, where he worked and studied for 13 years before returning to Israel and the mystical holy city of Safed in Northern Israel. His vibrant work uses unusual media to create exceptional pieces depicting Bible stories, Sephardic culture and life in Israel. His work is displayed in several prominent Israeli institutions, including the Knesset (Israel’s parliament), the Rockerfeller Center in New York, and the President’s home in Jerusalem.
