This reproduction tile of a man lighting the Chanukah Menorah pays homage to a woodcut print from a minhagim (Jewish customs) book published by Isaac De Cordova in 1923 in Amsterdam. The minhagim book, the first of which was published in 1593, served to illustrate the many important religious practices and customs of Jewish life.

Chanuka lighting on the 8 days of the holiday celebrates the Maccabean victory over the Seleucids in 164 BCE and the subsequent rededication of the Temple in Jerusalem.

This item comes with a certificate of authenticity of the Israel Museum, Jerusalem. Enclosed is a small description of its historical background in English and Hebrew.
