Details

Author Yehuda Avner takes us into the private chambers of Israeli Prime Ministers Levi Eshkol, Golda Meir, Yitzhak Rabin and Menachem Begin, on whose personal staffs he served, to bring to life episodes of war and peace, critical moments of decision-making, and the nature of relationships among world leaders.

Based on personal notes, transcripts and correspondence — some revealed here for the first time — The Prime Ministers offers a unique, personal account of the saga of Israeli political leadership.

About the Author

Yehuda Avner was born in Manchester, England, in 1928, and came to Israel (then Palestine) in 1947, where he helped found Kibbutz Lavi. His extensive diplomatic career began in the late 1950s, when he entered the Israel Foreign Service. He later served as Israeli’s Consul in New York, Counselor at the Washington Embassy, Ambassador to Great Britain, non-resident Ambassador to Ireland, and Ambassador to Australia. Between overseas postings, he served as Speech Writer and Secretary to Prime Ministers Levi Eshkol and Golda Meir, and Adviser to Prime Ministers Yitzhak Rabin, Menachem Begin, and Shimon Peres. Avner is the author of The Young Inheritors – a Portrait of Israel's Children, and is a frequent guest columnist for the Jerusalem Post.
