The Hamsa is an ancient Middle Eastern symbol for protection against the Evil Eye.
Thye Seven Species are first mentioned in Deuteronomy, and played a significant role in the diet and traditions of ancient Israelites. They include two grains and seven fruits: wheat, barley, pomegranates, figs, dates, olives and grapes. The grains were turned to flour and formed the mainstay of their diet; the fruits could be eaten fresh, dried for the winter, turned into wine and boiled down to create thick syrups used for sweetening other foods.
Israel's favorite artist Yair Emanuel studied at the Bezalel Academy of Art and Design, and now lives and works in Jerusalem.
