Neshama Carlebach's seventh album is a surprising and unexpected step for her. On the one hand, it looks back to her roots and source of her career: her father and one of the 20th century's most important Jewish musicians, Rabbi Shlomo Carlebach. On the other hand, it takes a step that even he never took, by partnering with a Christian gospel choir!
The album is filled with melodies written and made famous by Reb Shlomo, both to traditional Jewish liturgical lyrics, as well as some songs he wrote entirely. Both Neshama's voice and intepretations, as well as the African American Chrisitan backing she gets are full of emotion and excellent musicianship.
