Traditionally celebrated at festive meals with family and friends, Rosh Hashanah marks the start of the Jewish year. The holiday has many unique rituals and traditions, such as dipping apple slices into honey and blowing the Shofar. Our Rosh Hashanah Gifts section includes everything you need to celebrate the New Year!
Rosh Hashanah is a special time of year. The holiday combines all the best parts of Judaism - food, family, tradition and symbolism - ensuring a meaningful start to the New Year for everyone involved!
Like every holiday, Rosh Hashanah begins with lighting candles, making Kiddush and saying a blessing over fragrant, fluffy loaves of fresh challah - but instead of salt the bread is dipped in honey! There is also a time-honored tradition of dipping slices of apple into honey; the round apple represents the circle of life, and we symbolically dip it into golden honey while hoping for a sweet new year ahead. Our collection of gorgeous challah boards and honey dishes will bring bright, colorful beauty to your festive table and help you welcome the New Year in style!
A portion of the festival is spent immersed in prayer at the synagogue. A prayer book called a machzor guides you through the unqiue prayers said on these High Holy Days; it also dictates the special order of the shofar blowing ceremony. Integral to our Rosh Hashanah celebrations, the shofar - a hollowed out ram's horn - is blown throughout the day, calling Jews away from complacency and into the New Year. We stock a selection of beautifully polished shofar horns, so you too can play this ancient instrument.
Rosh Hashanah traditions vary in every community and country but one is almost unanimous: pomegranates! There is a custom to eat a new fruit on the second day of the New Year festivities, but this round ruby fruit is a firm favorite world-over. Its juicy red seeds symbolize wealth, joy and prosperity, as well as the Torah's multitude of mitzvot, and it is eaten to bring these blessings into our New Year. If you're spending the holiday with family or friends, a pomegranate themed item will make a gorgeous and totally appropriate gift. Check out our sensational range of pomegranate homeware, Judaica, art and jewelry!
