This bright serigraph depicts the infamous Dead Sea scrolls in brilliant color and abstract style. The brown and cream scrolls sit against a blue and blush background and are beautifully illuminated with gold. This stunning piece will look wonderful in any room in your house, or make a striking gift for someone special.
Born to a Rabbinic family in 1909, Jerusalem-born Moshe Castel was accepted into the Bezalel Art School at just 13 years of age. He then worked and trained in Paris for 13 years, before returning to Israel and the mystical city of Safed in Northern Israel. His work is characterized by its use of unusual media to depict Sephardic life and can be categorized into two distinct styles: vibrant, brilliantly colored prints embossed with metallic paints, and strong watercolors which are abstract in style. His work has been displayed in galleries around the world, as well as at several prominent institutions, including the Knesset (Israel’s parliament), the Rockefeller Center in New York, and the President’s home in Jerusalem.
