The front of the pendant features a large deep relief stylized Hebrew text of the basic Jewish creed: Shema Yisrael, Hashem Elokeinu, Hashem Echad (Hear, O Israel, Hashem is our God, Hashem is One) (Deuteronomy 6:4). God's name is not spelled out on the pendant, to avoid desecration.

It is inscribed by hand on the back with the four verses of the Priestly Blessing, Yevarechecha Hashem Veyishmerecha, Yaer Hashem Panav Elecha Vichuneka, Yisa Hashem Panav Elecha Veyasem Lecha Shalom. Vesamu eth shmi al bnei Israel, va'ani avarechem ("May Hashem (The Lord) bless you and guard you . . . And they [the priests] shall place My name upon the children of Israel, and I will bless them") (Numbers 6:24-27). Every word of this powerful phrase contains a world of meaning.

Also hand engraved on the back is the timeless verse from King David's wisdom, Gam ki elech begei tzalmavet, lo ira ra ki ata imadi (Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for You are with me) (Psalms 23:4).
